Description
Child Death Investigations can be intricate and emotionally challenging cases for a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). The team of instructors from the Zero Abuse Project developed their expertise in this training area through roles as prosecutors, law enforcement officers, coroners’ investigators, and forensic evidence experts. The overarching goal of these courses is to emphasize the benefits of an MDT-based approach in addressing common issues and challenges that arise during the investigation of the deaths of the most vulnerable victims. Topics covered include best practices for early investigative coordination, the use of forensic interviews and the Child Advocacy Center for sibling/witness interviews, effective application of search warrants and subpoena powers, tips for the collection and review of medical records, reenactments in the investigation process, the utilization of entomology (insect) evidence, digital evidence for corroboration, and the significance of a coroner/medical examiner-inclusive MDT.
