What is the current arts and health landscape in Oklahoma and what steps are needed to fully realize its potential? These were the guiding questions behind a recent assessment commissioned by the Oklahoma Arts Council and conducted by the Oklahoma State University (OSU) Center for Health Sciences.
Focused on interviews with leading practitioners in the state's arts and health field, results of the assessment were combined with participant feedback from May's 2026 Oklahoma Arts and Health Summit in a new report that outlines next steps.
The report shows the field of arts and health is meaningful and active—programs are happening in many parts of the state. It identifies opportunities where addressing infrastructure in arts and health, with leadership from the Oklahoma Arts Council, would advance the field.
The work ahead for the Oklahoma Arts Council, and the sector, involves convening partners, sharing information, supporting professional development, strengthening connections across sectors, and more.
