Thursday, June 04, 2026

Welcoming new volunteers in summer 2026, the Oklahoma State Capitol Docent Program is managed by the Oklahoma Arts Council. Through the museum-quality education program, docents get to share their passion for Oklahoma by bringing to life the art and history of the Capitol, leading 45-minute tours of a unique and dynamic space. The largest public art museum in the state, the Oklahoma State Capitol brings together art, history, and government like no other place in the state.

Among the many benefits, docents get to meet people from around the world while enjoying perks such as special outings, VIP experiences, behind-the-scenes access, and more.

Training for new docents begins in July. Approved applicants must complete four weekly two-hour training sessions held throughout the month.

Training sessions are:

  • July 9 | 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • July 16 | 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • July 23 | 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • July 30 | 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Perfect for retired individuals, those who work part time, corporate volunteers, civic leaders, former educators, graduate students, and others, the program is flexible and accommodate schedules. Docents volunteer an average two to four hours per week.

Art, history, and government come together in a unique and dynamic space—the Oklahoma State Capitol, the largest public art museum in the state. Apply now to provide unforgettable experiences at one of the top tourist destinations in Oklahoma.
