Champion Creative Aging Using New NASAA Toolkit

Monday, August 10, 2026

Every day in America, 10,000 people turn 65 years old. And, every day, arts organizations and arts programs are called upon to meet the needs of these and other adults as our nation ages.

To answer this call, in July the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA) released a new publication citing impressive statistics on the impact of creative aging programs. The publication urges the arts sector to leverage its resources and lead communities in meeting the needs of older Americans.

In the publication, readers will find compelling statistics such as the 2:1 return on investment of a prescribed community-based art class. Readers will learn how arts participation results in 30% fewer physician visits, 27% fewer hospital admissions, and 20% less medication use. Other physical and social benefits are outlined as well.
