As of November 2025, there are approximately 30 states who have passed legislation to become a member of the Social Worker’s Interstate Compact. Oklahoma’s representation on the Commission for the Compact is James Marks, LCSW – Executive Director, Oklahoma State Board of Licensed Social Workers.
At minimum, the Compact is 18-24 months away from full implementation. Until full implementation is achieved, it is the responsibility of the social worker to verify with individual state boards of their requirements to practice in their jurisdiction. Check back routinely for updates as to the status of the Compact and multi-state licensing opportunities.

- Develop Data System Infrastructure: A vendor has been selected through the RFP process; the Commission will now move into system development and begin planning for state integration.
- Prepare States for Implementation: As states gear up to issue multistate licenses, the Commission will support readiness through training, technical guidance, and coordination.
