This process can take up to three business days. If the referral meets the criteria, it is assigned to an APS Specialist. If criteria are not met, the reporter may be referred to another agency for assistance.

How do I opt out of DHS text message status updates?

How do I opt back in for DHS text message status updates?
To start receiving text messages, text START to 405-522-1672. Opting in will subscribe you to all eligible Oklahoma Human Services text updates.
- What does it mean when a case is "assigned"?
An APS specialist has been assigned and is currently reviewing the referral for next steps.
- What is happening during this stage?
The APS Specialist is actively delving into the situation, interviewing the vulnerable adult and those involved. The APS Specialist may develop a safety plan and/or recommend services. - Will I receive updates? During this stage, you will not receive specific details but will be informed when the referral reaches the next stage.
- What does "closed" mean?
The referral is complete, and APS has determined whether or not the vulnerable adult is in need of protective services. If services were recommended, APS may provide ongoing support or refer to other agencies. - Will I know the outcome?
Confidentiality laws prevent sharing specific case outcomes, but you will receive a notification when the referral is closed.
- When does APS follow-up?
After a referral is closed, APS may follow up to ensure the vulnerable adult remains safe and that the recommended services are meeting the vulnerable adult's needs. - Do I need to take further action?
Generally, no further action is required from the reporter. However, if you believe the vulnerable adult’s situation has changed, you can file a new referral.
