OKLAHOMA CAPITOL--- The Oklahoma Department of Human Services and the University of Oklahoma Center for Public Management will be hosting a lecture by Rolando Diaz-Loving, Ph.D. Dr. Diaz-Loving will be speaking about the changing values, belief and norms of the Mexican Family.

The event will begin at noon, Aug. 29 at the Oklahoma History Center, located at 2401 N. Laird Ave., Oklahoma City. Drinks and sandwiches are available for purchase at the event.

Diaz-Loving is Professor of Psychology and heads the Psychological Research Unit at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He is a nationally recognized author and lecturer whose main areas of research include couple and family relations, psychosocial factors related to HIV-AIDS and cultural personality. Diaz-Loving recently spent a sabbatical in Oklahoma providing expert guidance to OKDHS and its partners about ways in which the Oklahoma Marriage Initiative (OMI) can expand services to Spanish-speaking couples in culturally appropriate ways while also addressing the many considerations surrounding issues of acculturation.

“Dr. Diaz-Loving brings to the State of Oklahoma amazing insight into areas where practitioners and policy leaders can fine-tune services provided to Hispanics, OMI Project Manager Mary Myrick said, “He truly is the world’s expert, and I encourage all leaders in this community to take time out of their busy schedules to listen and learn new ideas to take back to their respective programs.”

Additionally, OKDHS will provide an opportunity for attendees to hear from Hispanic couples who are being served by several different community and agency-based programs. Dr. Diaz-Loving will interview these couples about their experiences and identify gaps in services for practitioners to consider.

This event kicks-off the Fall Practice and Policy Lecture Series. Other lectures are scheduled through December on a variety of topics. The Practice and Policy Lecture Series is free and open to the public.
