Work begins Friday on US-69 in Muskogee

Monday, October 26, 2026

Construction begins Friday, Oct. 30, on a pavement reconstruction project on US-69 in Muskogee. The project will start with the removal of the existing Centennial Trail bridge over US-69 north of Border Ave. US-69 will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday to demolish and remove the bridge.

A detour will be routed along SH-165/Peak Blvd. and US-62/Shawnee Bypass. Motorists should follow posted detour signs and plan for additional travel time.

Access to businesses and property will be maintained throughout the closure. The affected section of the Centennial Trail System will remain closed until further notice.

Residents and businesses in the surrounding area should expect equipment and demolition noise throughout the night during the closure.

Drivers are urged to plan ahead, follow the posted detour, and use caution around the work zone.

Once this weekend closure is completed, US-69 traffic will be narrowed to one lane in each direction until the project's completion, expected in fall 2028, weather permitting. Drivers should expect delays or use the SH-165 and US-62 detour route to avoid the work zone.

This closure marks the start of construction on the US-69 reconstruction and widening project. Approximately 2.5 miles of US-69 between Hancock Rd. and US-62/Okmulgee Ave. will be fully reconstructed as part of this work. The mile between Border Ave. and US-62/Okmulgee Ave. will also be widened to 6 lanes, matching the layout of north of Okmulgee Ave. The project also includes a new Centennial Trail pedestrian bridge that will increase the vertical height between the highway and the bridge, allowing more oversized loads to remain on US-69 rather than detouring through downtown Muskogee.

The Oklahoma Transportation Commission awarded the more than $44 million contract for this project to Becco Contractors Inc. of Tulsa in July 2026. Drivers are encouraged to download the Drive Oklahoma mobile app to stay aware of current traffic conditions and sign up for traffic alert emails on ODOT's website, Oklahoma.gov/ODOT.
