***Please note this will not impact Labor Day travel***
Northbound and southbound I-35 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction south of Thackerville between US-77 North (mm 1) and Winstar Blvd./Rogers Rd. (mm 3) in Love County from 8 a.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Friday and, if needed, from 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, to 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16 (notice will be sent). This work is to place barrier wall in preparation for upcoming construction through February 2023.
- Some additional, temporary lane closures may be necessary, but two lanes of I-35 must remain open on the weekends from 8 a.m Fridays to 8 a.m. Mondays.
- I-35 on- and off-ramps will generally remain open; however, some short-term closures may be necessary during certain phases of construction.
- This is a Smart Work Zone where message boards will indicate to drivers any potential delays in the work zone. Drivers should note there is a bridge reconstruction project north of this area on I-35 over US-77 (mile marker 8), estimated Spring completion.
Drivers should use caution through the work zone, observe the posted speed limit or locate an alternate route such as US-77.
The more than $11 million contract was awarded to C3 Construction, of Ada. The Chickasaw Nation provided $1 million toward the cost of construction.
This widening project will connect with an upcoming partnership project by the Texas Department of Transportation, the Chickasaw Nation and ODOT to widen I-35 from Gainesville across the Red River to US-77 North (mm 1) near Thackerville.
ODOT’s Eight-Year Construction Work Plan includes funding to begin right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation for future I-35 widening between Thackerville and Marietta. Reconstruction of the I-35 interchange at SH-153 in Thackerville is also tentatively scheduled in the Eight-Year Plan for 2027.
