Plan Ahead for I-40 Corridor Construction and Delays

Drivers should plan ahead for lane and ramp closures along the I-40 corridor for several construction projects. Expect significant delays, especially during weekends and holidays, and plan extra travel time or use an alternate route.

  • I-40 is narrowed to one lane in each direction near SH-152 (mm 23) in Sayre through 2022.

  • The project includes rehabilitation of the I-40 bridge over the North Fork of the Red River.

I-40 Resurfacing near Foss – Custer/Washita Co.

Impact to Traffic

  • I-40 is narrowed to one lane in each direction between SH-44 (mm 53) in Foss and Haggard Rd. (mm 59) through summer 2022.
  • The speed limit is reduced through the work zone.


About the Project

  • The $7.7 million contract was awarded to Caswell Construction, of Elk City.
  • The project includes resurfacing of six miles of I-40 pavement.
  • Work continues through summer 2022.





I-40 Resurfacing in Clinton, Custer Co.


Impact to Traffic

  • I-40 will be intermittently narrowed to one lane in each direction between I-40 Business East/Gary Blvd. (mm 65) and I-40 Business West (mm 69) in Clinton through summer 2022.
  • The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.


About the Project

  • The more than $1 million contract was awarded to Caswell Contracting, of Elk City.
  • The project includes four miles of asphalt resurfacing on I-40.
  • Work continues through summer 2022.





I-40 Bridge Maintenance in Weatherford, Custer Co.

 

Impact to Traffic

  • I-40 will be intermittently narrowed to one lane in each direction about one mile east of Airport Rd. (mm 85) in Weatherford through spring 2022.
  • The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone.


About the Project

  • The $553,000 contract was awarded to B&B Construction Services, of Clayton, Okla.
  • The project includes preventative bridge maintenance work on the I-40 bridges over Little Deep Creek, Farmrail Railroad and N. 2440 Rd. in Weatherford.
  • Work continues through spring 2022.





I-40 bridge rehabilitation in Oklahoma City - Oklahoma Co.

Impact to Traffic

  • I-40 is narrowed two lanes in each direction between Council Rd. (mm 142) and MacArthur Blvd. (mm 144) in Oklahoma City through summer 2022.
  • Rockwell Ave. is closed at I-40.
  • The speed limit is reduced in the work zone.


About the Project

  • The more than $1 million contract for this project was awarded to K&R Builders, of Wheatland, Okla.
  • Work includes rehabilitation of the Rockwell Ave. bridge over I-40, including significant bridge deck and structural repair.
  • Work continues through summer 2022.





I-40 bridge reconstruction near Sunnylane Rd. in Del City - Oklahoma Co.

Impact to Traffic

  • I-40 is narrowed two lanes in each direction between Sunnylane Rd. (mm 155) and Hudiburg Dr. (mm 156B) in Del City through 2023.
  • On- and off-ramps will be affected intermittently throughout the 2.5-year-long project with some ramps closed several weeks at a time.
  • The speed limit is reduced in the work zone.


About the Project

  • The nearly $80 million contract was awarded to Manhattan Road and Bridge Co. of Tulsa.
  • Six new bridges and approaches are planned on eastbound and westbound I-40 at Crutcho Creek, S.E. 15th St. and Sooner Rd. in Del City.
  • The bridges will be widened to accommodate a fourth lane in each direction and built taller to bring them to modern bridge standards.
  • Work continues through 2023.





I-40 pavement rehabilitation near Okemah - Okfuskee Co.

Impact to Traffic

  • I-40 is narrowed to one lane in each direction between Clearview Rd. (mm 227) and US-62 West/SH-27 (mm 221) in Okemah through summer 2022.
  • The speed limit is reduced in the work zone.


About the Project

  • The nearly $18 million contract was awarded to Haskell Lemon Construction Co., of Oklahoma City.
  • The project includes rehabilitation of nearly six miles of asphalt pavement on eastbound I-40.
  • Westbound I-40 in this area was resurfaced in 2020 as part of a separate project by the same contractor.
  • Work continues through summer 2022.





     

I-40 pavement rehabilitation near Checotah - Mcintosh Co.

Impact to Traffic

  • Drivers can expect various lane and ramp closures on east and westbound I-40 at US-69 (mm 264A-B) near Checotah through summer 2022.
  • During intermittent ramp closures, traffic will be detoured to US-69 Business (mm 265).
  • The speed limit is reduced in the work zone.


About the Project

  • The more than $6 million contract was awarded to Interstate Improvement, Inc., of Faribault, Minn.
  • The project includes concrete pavement rehabilitation at the I-40 and US-69 interchange.
  • Work continues through sunmmer 2022.

Impact to Traffic

  • I-40 is narrowed to one lane in each direction between Texanna Rd/Porum Landing (mm 270) and US-266/SH-2 (mm 278) near Warner through fall 2022
  • The speed limit is reduced in the work zone.


About the Project

  • The nearly $4.8 million contract was awarded to Built Right Construction, LLC, of Savanna, Okla.
  • The project includes bridge rehabilitation at US-266.
  • Work continues through fall 2022.





I-40 bridge reconstruction near Sallisaw - Sequoyah Co.

Impact to Traffic

  • I-40 is narrowed to one lane in each direction three miles west of US-59 (mm 305 ) near Sallisaw through winter 2022.
  • The speed limit is reduced in the work zone.


About the Project

  • The nearly $8 million contract was awarded to Manhattan Road and Bridge Co., of Oklahoma City.
  • The project includes replacement of the I-40 bridges over Big Sallisaw Creek.
  • Work continues through winter 2022.
