A $3.2 million project will improve traffic flow from I-235 to N.E. 10th St. and Harrison Ave. in downtown Oklahoma City.
Work Begins for I-235 Off-Ramps to N.E. 10th St., Harrison Ave.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has city streets narrowed in downtown Oklahoma City for ongoing reconstruction of the northbound I-235 off-ramp to N.E. Eighth St./Harrison Ave. and for a new off-ramp that takes traffic directly to N.E. 10th St. This $3.2 million project was awarded to Emery Sapp and Sons Inc., of Columbia, Mo., in February 2015 and work began in April 2015.
Some lanes will be closed on Oklahoma City streets during this project:
- Eastbound and westbound N.E. 10th St. is narrowed to one lane each direction just west of I-235 and just east of Central Avenue.
- Westbound N.E. Eighth St./Harrison Ave. is narrowed to one lane just east of I-235.
- Walnut Avenue remains closed between N.E. 10th St. and N.E. Eighth St./Harrison Ave. The City of Oklahoma City previously closed this street for the ongoing General Electric facility development. This will be a permanent street closure.
The project will construct an additional ramp to allow drivers along northbound I-235 to exit directly to N.E. 10th St. ODOT met with businesses and stakeholders in the area many times to discuss the details and impacts of this much-anticipated project. This project provides an example of successful partnership among numerous entities for improved access to the area, especially to local hospitals in the area. The base bid includes additional financial incentives for early completion of the project, which is expected to finish by fall 2015.
