US-69 frontage road becomes one-way, access shifts Friday in McAlester

Thursday, April 29, 2021

The following closures, shifts and frontage road adjustments will take place along the US-69 frontage roads between US-270 and Village Blvd. in McAlester on Friday at 9 a.m.:

  • The US-69 west frontage road will permanently become one-way between S. Peaceable and Village Blvd.
  • The current Village Blvd. frontage road entrances to US-69 will be closed. Drivers wanting to enter US-69 northbound can do so from the east frontage road at the on-ramp just south of Wade Watts Blvd. Drivers needing to go southbound on US-69 can turn around at Wade Watts Blvd. to the temporary on-ramp near S. Peaceable Ave or go south to S. 14th St.
  • Drivers on north and southbound US-69 needing to access Village Blvd. can exit at a new median road connecting directly to Peaceable (north of Car Mart). Motorists can then drive north to connect to Village Blvd.
  • The J-turn north of Village Blvd. will remain open.

Drivers should allow plenty of extra travel time, expect delays or locate an alternate route as traffic adjusts to these changes.

The final phase of US-69 reconstruction in McAlester was awarded at the Oct. 5, 2020 Oklahoma Transportation Commission meeting to Allen Contracting for $32 million. Work is estimated to be completed by fall 2022.
