US-81 and SH-53 sidewalk project in Comanche begins June 7
This project is weather permitting:
Drivers and pedestrians can expect various intermittent lane and sidewalk closures and lane shifts on US-81/Rodeo Dr. and SH-53/Oak Main Ave. in Comanche beginning Monday, June 7 and continuing through fall 2021 for a sidewalk reconstruction project. While local business access will be preserved throughout the project, some on-street parking on SH-53 will be unavailable during construction.
The speed limit will be reduced in the work zone and drivers should be alert to workers and equipment on the roadway.
The project to improve sidewalks, ramps and crosswalks on US-81, SH-53 and 2nd St. in downtown Comanche is a partnership between ODOT and the City of Comanche using federal funds combined with local funds provided by the city. The project was selected in 2019 to receive a federal grant through the Transportation Alternatives Program.
The nearly $992,000 contract for this work was awarded to Schiralli Construction Corp, of Wilson, Okla. in February.
