September Transportation Commission meeting scheduled for Monday, September 11

The Oklahoma Transportation Commission’s mon­thly meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, in the R.A. Ward Transportation Building, 200 N.E. 21st St., Oklahoma City. Members of the public and media are invited to attend or watch the livestream video online.

Items to be addressed at the meeting:

  • Secretary of Transportation and Oklahoma Department of Transportation Executive Director Tim Gatz will update commissioners on receiving the FHWA’s Accelerated Innovation Deployment Demonstration Program grant to improve the I-35 bridge over the Cimarron River at the Payne/Logan County line.
  • Also announced will be the observation of Rail Safety Week from September 18 through September 24 which is part of a national push to educate pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers about unsafe behavior and to #StopTrackTragedies.
  • The commission will vote on whether to award several contracts, among them an estimated $10 million project to install a roundabout at the intersection of US-81 and SH-66 in El Reno and an estimated $5 million rehabilitation project on US-69 in McAlester.

The commission, a nine-member panel appointed by the governor and legislative leaders to oversee the state’s transportation development, awards project contracts for road and bridge construction on a monthly basis.
