SH-11 Kaw City in-person meeting set for Dec. 6 to seek public input on future highway construction; virtual open house now live for review

Tuesday, November 15, 2022

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is seeking public input on two options to reconstruct the SH-11 corridor west of Kaw City. A virtual open house launched online Tuesday and an in-person public meeting is scheduled for Dec. 6 to present information on proposed safety improvements to SH-11 west of Kaw City in Kay County.

ODOT tasked a design consultant to study how to improve safety on SH-11 between Rocky Ridge Rd. and Grandview Dr. in Kaw City. In their proposed design options, the consultant took into consideration construction costs, right-of-way and environmental constraints. The project will add widened shoulders, address curves that limit sight distance and speed limit changes in the SH-11 corridor. One alternative proposes realigning SH-11 just to the north of the existing roadway between Rocky Ridge Rd. and Bear Creek Rd., while another alternative keeps the corridor closer to its existing alignment. The project is tentatively scheduled for 2028.

The purpose of the meeting and the virtual open house is to inform the public of the proposed project and to solicit comments about the environmental and societal impact of two alternatives to modernize SH-11. At the meeting people may view the proposed plans, speak with engineers and planners and give input on the proposed improvements.
