Plan Ahead for I-40 Corridor Construction and Delays

Drivers should plan ahead for lane and ramp closures along the I-40 corridor for several construction projects. Expect significant delays, especially during weekends and holidays, and plan extra travel time or use an alternate route.

Impact to Traffic

• I-40 is narrowed to one lane in each direction near SH-152 (mm 23) in Sayre through 2022.

• The $7.5 million contract was awarded to C3 Construction, of Ada.
  
• The project includes rehabilitation of the I-40 bridge over the North Fork of the Red River.

• The $553,000 contract was awarded to B&B Construction Services, of Clayton, Okla.
  
• The project includes preventative bridge maintenance work on the I-40 bridges over Little Deep Creek, Farmrail Railroad and N. 2440 Rd. in Weatherford.

• The more than $1 million contract for this project was awarded to K&R Builders, of Wheatland, Okla.
  
• Work includes rehabilitation of the Rockwell Ave. bridge over I-40, including significant bridge deck and structural repair.

I-40 bridge reconstruction near Sunnylane Rd. in Del City - Oklahoma Co.

Impact to Traffic

• I-40 is narrowed two lanes in each direction between Sunnylane Rd. (mm 155) and Hudiburg Dr. (mm 156B) in Del City through 2023.
  
• On- and off-ramps will be affected intermittently throughout the 2.5-year-long project with some ramps closed several weeks at a time.
• The speed limit is reduced in the work zone.

About the Project

• The nearly $80 million contract was awarded to Manhattan Road and Bridge Co. of Tulsa.
• Six new bridges and approaches are planned on eastbound and westbound I-40 at Crutcho Creek, S.E. 15th St. and Sooner Rd. in Del City.
• The bridges will be widened to accommodate a fourth lane in each direction and built taller to bring them to modern bridge standards.

• The nearly $18 million contract was awarded to Haskell Lemon Construction Co., of Oklahoma City.
• The project includes rehabilitation of nearly six miles of asphalt pavement on eastbound I-40.
• Westbound I-40 in this area was resurfaced in 2020 as part of a separate project by the same contractor.

• Drivers can expect various lane and ramp closures on east and westbound I-40 at US-69 (mm 264A-B) near Checotah through summer 2022.

• The speed limit is reduced in the work zone.

• The more than $6 million contract was awarded to Interstate Improvement, Inc., of Faribault, Minn.
  
• The project includes concrete pavement rehabilitation at the I-40 and US-69 interchange.
