DESCRIPTION:
In 2015, ODOT completed an inventory and evaluation of bridges and culverts constructed by the Depression-era Works Programs in Oklahoma between 1933 and 1945. That study resulted in a 10-year Programmatic Agreement for the streamlined Section 106 review and treatment of Depression-era bridges. The original agreement will expire in Fall 2025 and ODOT is proposing to extend the agreement for an additional 10 years.
As part of the programmatic agreement, ODOT has produced a final report of the bridge inventory, along with a public context for New Deal bridges and a Google Earth layer illustrating the location of bridges and culverts constructed as part of a confirmed New Deal Works Program projects. Each of these documents is available for view at http://www.odotculturalresources.info/depression-era-works-programs.html
The importance of New Deal work-relief programs in Oklahoma cannot be overstated. As such, ODOT has committed to meaningful public outreach and education regarding these resources. We invite anyone who wishes to comment on the proposed extension to the programmatic agreement or any of the public outreach documents to contact us.
