Purpose
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) will host a virtual public meeting to present plans to replace the SH-74 bridge over I-35. The new bridge will be wide enough for the interstate to expand to 6 lanes in the future. ODOT also plans to improve the interchange. ODOT reviewed multiple ways to accomplish this work and selected a plan that best balances costs and environmental concerns. This Open House will present the Preferred Alternative. The open house also provides an opportunity for the public to comment. We look forward to your participation!

Description
I-35 will be widened to six lanes in the future. A wider interstate must have wider overpasses. Currently, the existing SH-74 bridge over I-35 is too small for us to widen I-35.
In 2022, ODOT presented several ways to do this. We asked for comments at an online open house and through an online survey. We considered those comments as well as costs and environmental concerns. ODOT selected Alternative 5B.
Preferred Alternative Features
ODOT selected Alternative 5B. This will include:
- The new bridge over I-35 will be skewed and offset to the west. This will keep traffic open during construction and reduce effects to Airport Road.
- ODOT will build a new roundabout on the south side of I-35 for SH-74, West Frontage Road, and the I-35 southbound on and off ramps. This roundabout will have a “bypass lane” for traffic going south on West Frontage Road and continuing south on SH-74.
- The existing roundabout on the north side of I-35 will stay.
- The existing tapered slip ramp will be removed, and a new tapered slip ramp will be built north near West Burr Oak Road.
- West Frontage Road will be rebuilt from the new ramp south to the existing ramp.
- West Frontage Road will be overlain with fresh pavement from the existing slip ramp to the new roundabout south of the bridge.
- ODOT will build a retaining wall along the south side of I-35 and the west side of SH-74. The retaining wall will reduce right-of-way and utility effects.
