September Transportation Commission meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 8

The Oklahoma Transportation Commission’s monthly meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 in the R.A. Ward Transportation Building, 200 N.E. 21st St., Oklahoma City. Members of the public and media are invited to attend or watch the livestream.

Items to be addressed at the meeting:

  • Transportation Secretary and Oklahoma Department of Transportation Executive Director Tim Gatz will update commissioners on the status of the Heartland Flyer and recognize See Tracks? Think Train! Week (formerly Rail Safety Week), a nationwide effort to educate pedestrians and drivers on rail safety.
  • Gatz will brief commissioners on the I-40 widening and bridge replacement project at Harrah/Newalla Rd. with construction expected to start next week.
  •  The commission will vote on whether to award several contracts, among them two US-69 pavement rehabilitation projects, one near Caney in Atoka County and the other near Big Cabin in Craig County.

The commission, a nine-member panel appointed by the governor and legislative leaders to oversee the state’s transportation development, awards project contracts for road and bridge construction monthly.
