FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Press Release # 26-037
ODOT and OTA Snowplow Naming Voter Portal Open to the Public through Oct. 16.
Oklahoma Department of Transportation and Oklahoma Turnpike Authority’s snowplow naming contest is officially open for public votes on OKtraffic.org, giving Oklahoman’s an opportunity to help choose names for the snowplows that work to keep the state’s highways, interstates and turnpikes safe and passable during winter weather.
The public can visit OKtraffic.org to vote for their favorite snowplow names through Oct. 16. To participate, click the snowplow naming GIF in the bottom-right corner of the website to access the voting portal and cast a vote.
Those who wish to vote for an OTA snowplow can check the box for Turnpike trucks, select a specific turnpike if multiple options are listed and then vote for their favorite names from that turnpike’s selections.
Winning names will be announced Nov. 2 and featured on Oklahoma’s snowplow tracking website during winter storms, giving the public a fun way to follow the crews and equipment working hard to maintain safe travel conditions across the state.
Oklahoma’s statewide snowplow fleet includes 768 snowplows operated by the Oklahoma ODOT, OTA and contractors. These crews work around the clock when winter weather strikes, treating and clearing roadways to help keep motorists moving safely.
Oklahoma’s Snowplow Fleet and Roadways by the Numbers:
- OTA maintains roughly 630 miles across 12 turnpikes across Oklahoma.
- Oklahoma’s highway and interstate system spans more than 30,000 lane miles.
- The John Kilpatrick Turnpike averaged nearly 60,000 vehicles daily in 2025.
- During January 2026 snowstorms, ODOT and OTA cleared nearly 640,000 miles of highways, interstates and turnpikes.
During widespread winter storms, Oklahoma’s snowplow crews can cover highways, interstates and turnpikes across all 77 counties in a single weather event. From the Panhandle to southeastern Oklahoma, crews and equipment can be deployed wherever they are needed most.
The public is encouraged to visit OKtraffic.org, click the snowplow naming GIF in the bottom-right corner and cast a vote before Oct. 16.
