September Transportation Commission meeting scheduled for Monday, Sept. 8

The Oklahoma Transportation Commission’s monthly meeting is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8 in the R.A. Ward Transportation Building, 200 N.E. 21st St., Oklahoma City. Members of the public and media are invited to attend or watch the livestream.

Items to be addressed at the meeting:

  • Commissioners will be briefed on the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s new statewide seat belt safety campaign, “Never Skip the Click,” which is in partnership with the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority.

  • ODOT will receive top honors from the regional ITS Heartland Chapter and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.

  • Commissioners are expected to approve memorial designations and sign installations statewide, among them “Ambassador Neal McCaleb Memorial Interchange” at the I-35 and E. 33rd interchange in Edmond in honor of former Transportation Secretary and ODOT Director McCaleb.

  • The commission will vote on whether to award several contracts, among them a pavement improvement project on US-69 near Chouteau in Mayes County, and improvements to two increasingly traveled corridors on SH-37 near Idabel in McCurtain County and SH-7 near Sulphur in Murray Co.

The commission, a nine-member panel appointed by the governor and legislative leaders to oversee the state’s transportation development, awards project contracts for road and bridge construction on a monthly basis.
