Sen. Lankford joins City of Tulsa, ODOT for ceremonial groundbreaking at I-44/US-75 interchange on April 23
The City of Tulsa and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation will hold a ceremonial groundbreaking for the I-44/US-75 interchange project at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 23. This project will complete the interchange where empty bridge piers have stood since the completion of an earlier phase of construction in early 2023. The empty piers on site were constructed in an earlier phase due to available funding and to save construction time as well as reduce traffic impacts during the remaining work. Since that time, area residents have dubbed the interchange as "Traffic Henge" or "Tulsa Stonehenge."
Sen. James Lankford, Tulsa Mayor Monroe Nichols, Tulsa City Council Chair Phil Lakin Jr., Tulsa County Commissioner Lonnie Sims and ODOT Executive Director Tim Gatz are expected to speak.
