Oklahoma Department of Transportation and Oklahoma Turnpike Authority statement on the passing of Commissioner Stephen J. LaForge

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation and Oklahoma Turnpike Authority are deeply saddened by the passing of District 7 Oklahoma Transportation Commissioner Stephen J. LaForge on Friday, Feb. 14. He was a respected leader and passionate advocate for transportation improvements, dedicating his life to serving Oklahoma communities.

LaForge was appointed to the Oklahoma Transportation Commission by Gov. Kevin Stitt in April 2019, where he represented District 7, encompassing nine counties in Southwestern Oklahoma. He also served as an Oklahoma Turnpike Authority Board member from 1995 to 2003, further contributing to the state's transportation success.

As a respected business leader and community advocate, LaForge had a focused understanding of the importance of a robust transportation network with a clear vision for delivering needed improvements swiftly and responsibly.

He was a dedicated public servant who truly cared about the people of Oklahoma. His tireless support, insight and leadership in both his professional and community roles have left a profound impact on the state and his guidance will be missed.
