Mitchell named ODOT District 4 Engineer

Matthew Mitchell was named District 4 Engineer for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation in February. In this position, he oversees highway maintenance and construction activities for the nine counties in north-central Oklahoma, including the Oklahoma City metro.

Mitchell joined the ODOT team in 2009 as an inspector in the Stillwater Residency. In 2011, he had the opportunity to join the Oklahoma State University Roadway Design Squad while earning a degree in Civil Engineering. After graduating, Mitchell moved to Perry where he served as the District 4 Bridge Engineer. In 2017, he transitioned to the role of District 4 Maintenance Engineer and in 2018 became the Stillwater Resident Engineer. He was promoted to District 4 Rural Construction Engineer in August 2020 then as local Government Division Engineer in 2023.

He holds Bachelor’s degrees in Biological Sciences and Civil Engineering from Oklahoma State University and is a Professional Engineer. He is a member the Oklahoma Association of County Engineers and the Institute of Transportation Engineers. Matt was recognized in 2022 with a Pharoah Award for SH-33 over Cottonwood Creek and a 2019 Director’s Safety Award.

Matt lives in Stillwater with his family.
