Secretary of Transportation Tim Gatz names Rick Johnson as Director of Project Delivery. In this position, Rick will create consistent construction policies and processes and develop unified planning and project management activities.
Johnson started his career with ODOT in 1997 as a transportation CADD specialist (computer-aided design) in Roadway Design. In 2001, he moved to the Special Projects Branch of Roadway Design/Project Management Division, eventually becoming the Division 8 project manager in 2010. Beginning in 2014, Johnson established and led the Facilities Management Division before becoming Project Management division manager from 2016 until 2019. His most recent position was the director of Capital Programs.
Johnson has held leadership roles in transportation programs such as the Eight-Year Construction Work Plan, the Four-Year Asset Preservation Plan and the Five-Year County Improvements for Roads and Bridges.
During his tenure with ODOT, Johnson served as project manager for the reconstruction of the Tulsa Metropolitan Area I-244 TIGER Grant, Oklahoma’s first multi-modal bridge crossing and Oklahoma’s first fully accelerated bridge construction project on SH-51 over Cottonwood Creek, among other accomplishments.
Johnson earned his Bachelor of Science in business administration and his master’s degree in management, both from Southern Nazarene University. He lives in Davenport and enjoys hunting and fishing with his three sons.
