Public input sought for US-60/Horse Creek bridge in Ottawa County
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is seeking public input on a proposed bridge improvement project on US-60 over Horse Creek in Ottawa County. This bridge is located in the town of Afton on a section of old Route 66.
The bridge was built in 1936 and is considered both structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. It is on a narrow two-lane highway with no shoulder and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) due to its association with Route 66 and design. The current traffic counts are roughly 7,000 vehicles per day and this number is expected to increase in the coming years. It is currently scheduled for improvements in FFY2018.
To help inform the public of proposed improvements, the Department will host three drop-in information centers on Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Afton. Visitors will have the opportunity to ask questions, view the proposals and fill out comment forms.
