The Oklahoma Commission on Children and Youth is seeking an experienced professional to serve as a Juvenile Competency Coordinator. This full-time position, based in Oklahoma County, supports the state’s juvenile justice system by coordinating competency evaluations and ensuring compliance with state law and administrative rules.
This position plays a central role in carrying out agency responsibilities under 10A O.S. § 2-2-401.4, which governs juvenile competency proceedings, and Oklahoma Administrative Code (OAC) Title 135, Chapter 10, Subchapter 26, which outlines the credentialing and oversight of juvenile forensic evaluators.
The coordinator works closely with courts, evaluators and partner agencies to manage the competency evaluation process, support the Juvenile Competency Evaluation Professional Committee and improve services for youth statewide.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing implementation of OAC Title 135, Chapter 10 related to juvenile competency
- Coordinating meetings and activities of the Juvenile Competency Evaluation Professional Committee in accordance with OAC 135:10-26-4
- Communicating with judges and parties in juvenile court proceedings regarding competency matters
- Recruiting and supporting credentialed forensic evaluators
- Coordinating training opportunities for prospective evaluators
- Managing the evaluator credentialing process in line with administrative rules
- Working with the Administrative Office of the Courts and other partners to fulfill statutory requirements under 10A O.S. § 2-2-401.4
- Serving as contract monitor for evaluators, including vendor coordination, contract management and invoice review
- Receiving court orders and assigning competency evaluations to qualified evaluators
- Collecting and providing necessary case information to evaluators
- Entering and maintaining data in the agency system
- Analyzing trends and preparing reports and presentations for stakeholders
- Collaborating with state and local partners to improve juvenile competency processes
- Preparing an annual report on juvenile competency activities in Oklahoma
- Performing additional duties as assigned
This position requires a high level of independence, professionalism and attention to detail. The successful candidate will be able to manage complex processes, interpret statutes and administrative rules, and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Minimum qualifications:
- Master’s degree in social work, a social or behavioral science, public administration, planning or a related field, or a juris doctorate, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least five years of professional experience in child welfare, juvenile justice, education, law, counseling or a related field
Preferred knowledge and skills:
- Knowledge of Oklahoma’s children’s court system
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- Proficiency in Excel and data systems
- Public speaking and presentation skills
- Cultural awareness and a commitment to ongoing learning
The position offers a salary of $61,500 and is classified as a regular, full-time role. Applications will be accepted through May 8, 2026.
