In September of 2015, the Canadian County Health Department put together a strategic planning team to develop a five-year strategic plan. The team was responsible for gathering data to be used during the planning process including: community health assessment data, community health improvement plan objectives and strategies, Oklahoma State Health Improvement Plan objectives, and current strategic plan goals outlined in the agency's performance management system. This information, gathered from all levels of internal staff and community partnerships, provided the foundational data necessary for strategic planning. The final result was the Canadian County Health Department Strategic Plan. This document can be viewed by clicking on the report below:

WIC (Women, Infants and Children)
WIC is a federally funded nutrition education and supplemental food program for low income pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants, and children up to 5 years of age. WIC is based on the size of the family and the income brought into the home. WIC provides women, infants, and children with nutritious supplemental foods, nutrition education, and referrals for health care.
A priority for WIC is to ensure that mothers and eligible families with young children have the nutritional knowledge necessary to assure their children's proper nutrition intake. WIC provides nutritious foods tailored to supplement the dietary needs of participants to ensure good health, growth and development.
Studies show that pregnant women who participate in WIC have longer pregnancies leading to fewer premature births; have fewer low and very low birth-weight babies; experience fewer fetal and infant deaths; seek prenatal care earlier in pregnancy and consume more of key nutrients such as iron, protein, calcium, and vitamins A and C. WIC encourages and supports breastfeeding by providing a wide range of breastfeeding services and support activities to expectant and new mothers.
