Valid permit holders wishing to renew their permit must complete the renewal process through the Online Licensing System (see the Breath Testing page).

Service Oklahoma can receive the Officer's Affidavit electronically and via U.S. Mail. Service Oklahoma will accept electronically submitted, legible, affidavits in PDF format that are sent to sokduiaffidavits@service.ok.gov.  Each affidavit must be attached to a separate email.

An ignition interlock device is an instrument that prevents a vehicle from starting when the breath alcohol concentration of a breath alcohol test meets or exceeds the startup set point (0.025 g/210L).

The device is installed into the vehicle through the electrical system. When the device, through a breath test, detects a breath alcohol concentration that meets or exceeds the startup set point the car will not start. As you are driving, you will be required to take periodic retests. The device incorporates a data storage system that records specific vehicle and device use information.

No. In order to start your vehicle you must deliver a breath sample that is below the startup set point.

No. A properly installed ignition interlock device will not turn your vehicle off. The ignition interlock device only prevents a vehicle from being started. In fact, the device will permit a free restart of the motor vehicle within two minutes after the engine has shut off, for any reason, without requiring an additional breath test.

Yes. Voluntary installations are great for those who are looking for the control and peace of mind the ignition interlock device creates.  The Board has no oversight or authority over voluntary installations.

Most devices are similar in size and shape to a large cellular phone. Many of the device components can be installed in an inconspicuous area.

Ignition interlock services may only be performed by BOT licensed technicians who work in a service center licensed by the state of Oklahoma.  Exceptions apply for persons living out of the state of Oklahoma.

A license is issued to each service center and each technician. You may ask to see the license issued to either entity or you can call the Board of Tests for Alcohol and Drug Influence and ask for license verification.

Ignition interlock service centers licensed by the state of Oklahoma are inspected at least annually to ensure compliance and to ensure all persons providing ignition interlock services hold a valid license.

No. Ignition interlock manufacturers set their own pricing, although each manufacturer must submit their fee schedules to the Board prior to implementation.  No interlock customer shall pay any fee that is not on the schedule filed with the Board.  We encourage you to call and inquire with each manufacturer about their installation, lease, removal, and any other related fees.

Ignition interlock devices in Oklahoma use an alcohol specific Fuel Cell. This means that if there is alcohol in your mouthwash, toothpaste, gum, or certain medications that contain alcohol, such as cough syrups, it could be detected.

If you need to have someone work on your vehicle, you should have the mechanic call your service center or the manufacturer for instructions. Oklahoma law (47 O.S. 11-902a) prohibits any unlicensed person from attempting to physically disable, disconnect or wire around the ignition interlock device.

Oklahoma law (47 O.S. 11-902a) prohibits any person from authorizing or permitting a person, who is required to have an ignition interlock device installed, to operate a motor vehicle that does not have an ignition interlock device installed.

Oklahoma law (47 O.S. 11-902a) prohibits a person from failing to return an ignition interlock device when it is no longer required in the vehicle or upon request by the owner of the device.

In the event you need a device installed and you do not reside in Oklahoma, the technician who installs the device will provide an Installation Verification Form. In the event you need a device serviced, it is recommended that you call your existing service center or the manufacturer to obtain local service center information in your location.
