I-44/Turner Turnpike bridge reconstruction at Arcadia Lake begins Monday

Friday, May 01, 2026

A nearly $22 million I-44/Turner Turnpike bridge reconstruction project is scheduled to begin Monday at mm 136 between I-35 and Midwest Boulevard. The existing split twin bridges will be replaced with one bridge built for the Turner's future six-lanes.

Initial work includes lane shifts on eastbound and westbound I-44/Turner Turnpike to place barrier wall to set up the work zone. OTA will maintain two lanes of traffic in each direction during construction. Motorists can expect lane shifts throughout the project. Additional temporary widenings will be created as needed to maintain traffic flow in this busy section of the Turner Turnpike.

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority Board awarded the project Feb. 3 to Allen Contracting. Work is expected to be completed in spring 2027. At completion, the new bridge will be striped for four lanes. Following completion of the widening projects on either side of the bridge, it will be re-striped to accommodate six lanes of traffic.
