I-44/Turner Turnpike overnight closures between Stroud and Chandler scheduled May 17, May 18

Monday, May 13, 2024

Westbound I-44/Turner Turnpike and the Stroud Service Plaza will be closed between SH-99 (mm 179) and the Stroud Service Plaza from 9 p.m. Friday, May 17, to 6 a.m. Saturday, May 18, for crews to hang bridge beams for the Old Stroud Rd. bridge reconstruction. Detour is the SH-99 exit to Stroud to westbound SH-66 to northbound SH-18 to westbound I-44/Turner Turnpike at Chandler (mm 166).

Additionally, eastbound I-44/Turner Turnpike will be closed between SH-18 at Chandler and SH-99 at Stroud from 9 p.m. Saturday, May 18, and 6 a.m. Sunday, May 19, for bridge beam hanging. The Chandler Service Plaza also will be closed during this time.

Motorists are advised to plan additional travel time and expect congestion in the area during these closures.

Reconstructing Old Stroud Rd. bridge is part of a more than $8.3 million project to add a two-way frontage road between Old Stroud Rd./N. 3550 Rd. and SH-99/N. Eighth Ave., which opened Feb. 9. Other work includes reconstructing W. Seventh St. between Old Stroud Rd. west toward the turnpike service plaza near Ozark Trail Rd. Additionally, shoulder improvements will be made on the I-44/Turner Turnpike later in the project, which is expected to complete by the end of 2024. This project is in preparation of the upcoming reconstruction of the Stroud service plaza area and the future widening of the I-44/Turner Turnpike corridor, which is a part of the ACCESS Oklahoma longrange plan.
