UPDATE: I-44/Turner Turnpike narrows near Stroud Thursday, Friday nights; full overnight closure set for Feb. 10 between Stroud, Chandler for bridge removal

Thursday, February 08, 2024

Eastbound and westbound I-44/Turner Turnpike will be narrowed to one lane in each direction at Old Stroud Rd. bridge between US-377/SH-99 (mm 179) at Stroud and SH-18 (mm 166) at Chandler from 8 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday for striping and again from 10 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday to place barrier wall in preparation for a slight lane shift as part of ongoing bridge work.

Motorists should make plans for a full closure of the I-44/Turner Turnpike between SH-18 (mm 166) at Chandler and US-377/SH-99 (mm 179) at Stroud from 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, through 7 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, for the removal of Old Stroud Rd. bridge beams as part of the ongoing construction project.

Detour during Feb. 10 closure; service plazas close overnight

Eastbound I-44/Turner Turnpike motorists must exit to SH-18 in Chandler to SH-66 to continue eastbound toward Stroud during the closure. Westbound I-44/Turner Turnpike motorists must exit at US-377/SH-99 at Stroud to SH-66 westbound to Chandler. The Stroud and Chandler service plazas also will be closed during this time.

When the closure is complete, I-44/Turner Turnpike will reopen to two lanes in each direction.

Reconstructing Old Stroud Rd. bridge is part of a more than $8.3 million project to add a two-way frontage road between Old Stroud Rd./N. 3550 Rd. and SH-99/N. Eighth Ave. Other work includes reconstructing W. Seventh St. between Old Stroud Rd. west toward the turnpike service plaza near Ozark Trail Rd. Additionally, shoulder improvements will be made on the I-44/Turner Turnpike later in the project, which is expected to complete by the end of 2024. This project is in preparation of the upcoming reconstruction of the Stroud service plaza area and the future widening of the I-44/Turner Turnpike corridor, which is a part of the ACCESS Oklahoma long-range plan.
