John Kilpatrick Turnpike, SH-74 ramps, Memorial Rd. lanes to narrow this week for protected turnaround projects
Closures impacting ramps and lanes at the John Kilpatrick Turnpike, SH-74/Lake Hefner Parkway and Memorial Rd. interchange are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday and continue through winter for a project that will add protected turnarounds on the east and west sides of the interchange. This project is designed to improve safety and the free-flow of traffic through the interchange.
Motorists can expect the following traffic impacts:
- The eastbound and westbound John Kilpatrick Turnpike off-ramps to Memorial Rd. will be narrowed to one lane;
- Eastbound and westbound Memorial Rd. will be narrowed to two lanes in each direction between May Ave. and Meridian Ave. with work concentrated at the JKT and SH-74/Lake Hefner Parkway interchange. The ramp lane will be closed.
- SH-74/Lake Hefner Parkway northbound and southbound service roads (Portland Ave.) will be narrowed to one lane between the JKT bridge and Memorial Rd.
- Northbound and southbound SH-74/Lake Hefner Parkway off-ramps to Memorial Rd. will be narrowed to one lane.
Motorists are reminded to expect delays and congestion and to plan extra travel time in the area.
This $4.4 million project was awarded to Allen Contracting Inc. of Oklahoma City and is expected to complete by spring 2023, weather permitting.
