OTA maintenance and toll staff recognized for 2021 safety accomplishments

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority maintenance and toll divisions received recognition at February’s Authority Board meeting Feb. 22 for their exceptional safety records in 2021.

Frontline turnpike employees face traffic hazards throughout their work days. The safety record across the turnpike system is a representation of their commitment and priority to a safe, efficient turnpike system.

Maintenance crews from the following turnpikes were honored for Perfect Safety Record in Maintenance, meaning no incidents resulting in personal injury during 2021. 

  • Cherokee Turnpike
  • Chickasaw Turnpike
  • Cimarron Turnpike
  • Indian Nation Turnpike
  • Kickapoo Turnpike 

In addition, maintenance crews for the Muskogee and Turner turnpikes were recognized for Outstanding Safety Record, with no lost time for injuries during 2021.

OTA Director of Maintenance Mark Kalka and assistant directors Steve Allen and Mike Collins accepted the awards on behalf of the maintenance division.

Crews working on the following turnpikes were honored for Perfect Safety Record in Tolling during 2021. 

  • Cherokee Turnpike 
  • H.E. Bailey Turnpike  

The Turner Turnpike was also recognized for its Outstanding Safety Record in Tolling in 2021. Director of Toll Operations Mary Biswell accepted the awards on behalf of the toll division.
