Oklahoma Turnpike Authority earns national construction recognition
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority received recognition at January’s Authority Board meeting Tuesday for four American Concrete Pavement Association awards it won during the past three years.
The four OTA projects that received recognition:
- 2021 Excellence in Concrete Pavement (Gold State/National Award: Divided Highways – Urban): Duit Construction’s surfacing of the southwestern John Kilpatrick Turnpike extension between S.W. 15th St. and SH-152, part of the Driving Forward initiative. Extending the turnpike to provide access to the rapidly growing southwest side of Oklahoma City required 366,693 square yards of 10-inch thick dowl-jointed concrete pavement atop 400,000 square yards of locally sourced, cement-treated base.
- 2020 Excellence in Concrete Pavement (Gold State/National Award: Divided Highways – Urban): Duit Construction’s surfacing of the southwestern John Kilpatrick Turnpike extension between I-40 and S.W. 15th St., part of the OTA Driving Forward initiative (2020 ACPA).
- 2020 Excellence in Concrete Pavement (Gold State: Divided Highways – Rural): Duit Construction’s reconstruction of the I-44/Turner Turnpike and SH-33 interchange.
- And the 2019 Excellence in Concrete Pavement (Gold State: Divided Highways – Rural): Sherwood Construction’s reconstruction and widening of I-44/Turner Turnpike between mile markers 202.5 and 210, part of the OTA Driving Forward initiative.
The Oklahoma/Arkansas ACPA chapter recognized each of the four projects, which made them eligible for national ACPA awards with the two Duit Construction southwestern John Kilpatrick Turnpike extension projects subsequently receiving national ACPA award recognition. Winners in the 15 categories were determined by concrete pavement professionals; the award recognizes contractors, engineers and project owners. The American Concrete Pavement Association is the national trade association for the concrete pavement industry and is involved in the design, construction and preservation of concrete pavements.
