OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (March 14, 2018) – The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA) statement on the Oklahoma Senate passing SB 1385.
"The safety of the users of the Turnpike network is always our primary concern. We strive to maintain the turnpikes in good operating condition and to invest in safety improvements to protect travelers. Research shows that increasing speed limits on high- speed highways results in increases in severe accidents and fatality rates. In 2017, our records show that accidents on all of the concerned turnpikes trended up, despite our efforts to enhance safety. Therefore, we have a level of concern with increasing the maximum speed limits on the facilities.”
