OKLAHOMA CITY– Beginning November 5, a major bridge on the Kilpatrick Turnpike will close for an extended period of time due to the ongoing turnpike widening project.
The Lake Hefner fly-over bridge will close to traffic the morning of Nov. 5. The bridge carries approximately 8,500 motorists daily from westbound Kilpatrick Turnpike to southbound Lake Hefner Parkway. Motorists will be able to access southbound Lake Hefner Parkway via Portland Avenue exit.
Construction crews will dismantle a portion of the bridge in order to rebuild one of the bridge supports.
It’s anticipated the closure could take up to 90 days for completion of this portion of the project along the Kilpatrick Turnpike. The OTA has incentivized the contractor to reopen the bridge and ramp as quick as possible.
“We have put bonuses in to this portion of the contract in order to push the contractor to reopen the bridge as quick as possible,” said Tim Stewart, Deputy Director of the Turnpike Authority. “We realize the importance of this ramp and bridge to the traveling public and want to minimize delays.”
Manhattan Bridge will do the work on the bridge and support structures. The cost of this portion of the expansion of the turnpike is approximately $607,271.89.
Duit/TTK Construction is the general contractor for the current widening project on the Kilpatrick Turnpike. The work will add an additional lane of traffic both east and west bound from Eastern Avenue to MacArthur Blvd. The total widening project cost is $54,821,199.50.
