Meet Sonia Johnson
Deputy Director of Community Engagement, Oklahoma Human Services
Sonia has devoted her career to leading cross-functional collaborations focused on building partnerships that support student learning. Serving in a variety of sectors
including higher education, nonprofit management and state government, she has successfully led a variety of educational initiatives from needs assessment to program design, through implementation and evaluation.
Sonia serves as the Deputy Director for Community Engagement at Oklahoma Human Services. Prior to joining OKDHS, she served as the Executive Director for Family and
Community Engagement and 21st Century Community Learning Centers at the Oklahoma State Department of Education. Additionally, she has held roles at the Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy, as the Director of the Oklahoma Afterschool Network, as an Early
Education Specialist with Drake University Early Head Start, and as the university child care consultant for Iowa State University. In her role at Iowa State, Sonia was responsible for developing community partnerships aimed at improving the affordability, accessibility, and quality of child care services available to university students, faculty, and staff.
