Administrative Letter 25-03 Tardive dyskinesia training update

Dear Prescribing Healthcare Provider,

Developmental Disabilities Services (DDS) is no longer able to provide training for provider agency staff to complete tardive dyskinesia assessments due to changes in qualification requirements for certification. DDS provides training to monitor for symptoms of tardive dyskinesia, which has been expanded to include all staff providing support for people receiving services. This training will provide education so staff can continually monitor for tardive dyskinesia symptoms and then report to prescribers any concerns for further evaluation.

DDS appreciates the care you provide to people receiving services and the continued prescriber monitoring for this potential adverse effect. The revised forms for examination (DDS-73 and DDS-5) have a section added specifically for tardive dyskinesia monitoring. DDS requests a copy of the most recent prescriber completed tardive dyskinesia assessment when applicable to prescribed medications. Assessments are completed at the prescriber’s discretion in accordance with professional guidelines. A copy is requested for completeness of records for individuals receiving services and to alert staff of additional monitoring recommended. Thank you for your assistance and the care you provide.

Sincerely,

Tiffany Greene, D.Ph. Director of Pharmacy Services
