Provider Update: September 1, 2016

Adult Maltreatment: The Responsibility to Recognize and Report

All ADvantage Providers were sent a bulletin communication on August 15, 2016 which explained the need to complete the "Adult Maltreatment: The Responsibility to Recognize and Report", on-line training module.  This mandatory training has been established to meet the Waiver Performance Measure that indicates all ADvantage Providers be educated on their responsibilities to recognize and report abuse, neglect, and exploitation of Members.

This training is accessible through the Learning Management System and all ADvantage Providers are required to complete this training by September 30, 2016.  Required participants includes all Provider staff who have any contact with ADvantage Members as well as Provider staff responsible for training and/or management of staff who have contact with Members. This includes, but is not limited to ADvantage certified and contracted providers of case management, home care, hospice, adult day health, assisted living, durable medical equipment, home delivered meals, and environmental modifications.

Recognizing that providers with greater staffing levels may find it more difficult to meet the expected training completion date using the on-line training module, MSU will accept an alternative training approach to educate staff on Adult Maltreatment; although the instruction must meet all of the criteria listed as follows:

  • Conduct a mandatory internal training with all staff providing services using a Power Point presentation, or similar training modality (WebEx, Adobe Connect, etc.)
  • The content of the training must include the same or similar content as provided on the LMS site.  This must be verifiable upon review at the request of MSU staff.
  • A knowledge assessment/test must be administered to evaluate comprehension
  • Some sort of certificate or certification will be required to validate training and placed in the staff member's personnel file
  • Please be prepared to provide a list to MSU of trained employees upon request that should minimally include signatures, worker titles, date training completed, and associated training materials.

Providers, who wish to select this alternative train the trainer method, may do so, however, the September 30th completion date remains in effect.  If all staff are not trained by September 30, 2016, MSU may request a remediation plan with a timeline for completion. If the on-line training module, training option is more appropriate for your agency, please proceed in completing training in the LMS system accordingly.
