Federal Reduction in SNAP Benefits
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients will see two changes in their benefit amounts during the fall of 2013. Every October 1, 2013, benefits are adjusted to reflected changes in the cost of living. This will be followed by a second change that will reduce those rates on November 1, 2013, the day the previously adopted ARRA or stimulus package, expires. The amount of benefit change will depend on many things such as income, household size and expenses so it is difficult to say exactly how much the change will be.
Case Managers will need to be aware of this change for their ADvantage Members who are SNAP recipients, as it may result in needing to make a change on the Member’s service plan to include the addition of meal benefits.
ADvantage Members who are SNAP recipients will receive a notice in the mail from DHS; however, for additional information the Member may contact their Social Worker. Additional information is available in the DHS News Release Library.
