MEDIA ALERT: Open House Available for New Cutting-Edge Accessible Smart Home in Tulsa

Tuesday, February 10, 2026

What does independence look like when every room is built around possibility instead of limitation? Step inside Oklahoma’s newest Smart Home - where doors open with a voice, a kitchen prevents burns, and a caregiver gets a real-time alert if their loved one has a seizure. This is the future of autonomy for aging Oklahomans and people with disabilities, and it’s fully on display in Tulsa.

What: Members of the media are invited to film and conduct interviews with Oklahoma Human Services staff and Soaring on Hope Pediatric Therapy Center staff at the grand opening of the new Smart Home demonstration site at Soaring on Hope in Tulsa.

When: Members of the media are welcome to interview staff from 9 a.m. until noon on Wednesday, Feb. 11

Where: Soaring on Hope, 4908 S. Sheridan Rd., Tulsa, OK, 74145.

Background Info: Oklahoma Human Services, in collaboration with Soaring on Hope Pediatric Therapy, has launched a new Smart Home demonstration site in Tulsa to showcase remote supports and enabling technologies for families awaiting Developmental Disabilities Services (DDS), as well as those already receiving DDS waiver services.

Families will tour the new Smart Home between 1 - 4 p.m. Registration is not required.

Each Smart Home demonstration site includes a fully functional living room, bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom to demonstrate how enabling technologies enhance the quality of life and independence for people with disabilities and aging Oklahomans.

The Smart Home demonstration site features a wide array of enabling technologies such as those designed to remotely control appliances, dispense medications and detect seizures, the result being increased safety and independence for the user. From video doorbells to induction stovetops and grab bars, these technologies empower aging Oklahomans and those with disabilities to navigate their daily routines with greater confidence and autonomy.

Additional tools include adaptive cookware, eating utensils, dressing tools, a roll-in shower and technologies to help those with low vision or blindness.
