OKLAHOMA CITY (May 18, 2023) – Oklahoma Human Services will host virtual listening sessions to assess the needs of aging Oklahomans. These sessions are in effort to reach those who were not able to attend its in-person sessions. Through these open forum virtual sessions, the agency plans to gather critical information from social workers, first responders, faith-based leaders and employers to help in the development of a Multisector Plan on Aging. The agency will also offer a session for the current aging community and all interested parties to attend.

By 2030, for the first time ever, the number of people over 65 will outnumber children under 18. This historic number of older Oklahomans will require a transformation in the way public, private, and non-profit groups approach the priorities for this significant population. To support this change, Oklahoma Human Services is looking ten years into the future and reimagining how it can better serve aging Oklahomans.

The goal of a Multisector Plan on Aging is to give every senior the confidence to live life on their terms and to provide them with the resources they need to lead a healthy lifestyle. In order to develop this comprehensive plan by August 2024, the agency is asking for the community’s input.

To assess the current needs of aging Oklahomans, we will be hosting virtual listening tour sessions on these dates:

May 22, 10 a.m. – Social Workers and First Respondes
May 23, 2:30 p.m. – Employers
May 25, 5:30 p.m. – (general public, all interested parties)
May 26, 11 a.m. – Faith-based Leaders

As the efforts to develop a Multisector Plan on Aging continue, the state agency is also looking for input on the official name of the plan. All Oklahomans are invited to take this quick survey to help name this project for the future.

Visit Oklahoman Human Service’s website or call contact Rhonda Souders at (405) 982-3576 to RSPV for a virtual listening session for Oklahoma’s Multisector Plan on Aging.
