More Oklahoma families will prepare to transition off the waitlist for Oklahoma Human Services Developmental Disabilities Services (DDS)
as the next round of regional family meetings begin.
The PossABLE meetings, held each quarter, provide resources and information to families as they prepare to transition onto services. DDS has held 15 of these meetings across the state so far, with seven more planned this fall.
“Oklahoma Human Services will host meetings in even more locations across the state, including one virtual meeting,” said DDS Division Director Beth Scrutchins. “These additional meetings increase opportunities for families to ask questions and gain clarity about the process.”
Eligible families will receive invitations to regional meetings based on their application date. The meetings will take place in Sept. and Nov. 2023 for families who applied for DDS services between June 2019 and May 2021, known as cohort 6.
Sessions will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates:
- Wednesday, Sept. 13 – Weatherford
- Friday, Sept. 15 – Oklahoma City
- Saturday, Sept. 16 – Tulsa
- Monday, Sept. 25 – Bartlesville
- Wednesday, Sept. 27 – Ada
- Thursday, Sept. 28 – Oklahoma City
- Thursday, Nov. 9 – Virtual
While registration is required, the meeting is free. Additionally, the cost of attendance can be offset with a $100 stipend provided to families who need to cover related travel or caregiver expenses. Families who have attended previous meetings can register to attend but will not receive the stipend.
