The Oklahoma Aging Advocacy Leadership Academy (OAALA) is accepting applications for 2020. For 22 years, OAALA has provided free training for individuals to be informed volunteer community leaders and advocates for Oklahoma's aging and disabled population.

The six month course lasts from April to September 2020.  Classes meet all day Wednesday and Thursday at the Construction and Properties Building (CAP) at 50 N.E. 23rd St. on the following dates (subject to change):

Session 1:  April 8 & 9

Session 2:  May 13 & 14

Session 3:  June 17 & 18

Session 4:  July 8 & 9

Session 5:  August 12 & 13

Session 6:  September 9 & 10

Attendance and participation is required for each of the twelve full days. There is no cost to participate as tuition is covered by sponsors including lunch, books and resource materials. Overnight accommodations are available for those who qualify. Travel reimbursements may be provided under the State Travel Reimbursement Act.

Applicants should demonstrate a willingness to use constructive advocacy techniques to effect social change and a commitment to build communities that include and value all older persons and persons with disabilities. They should also demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of people and the ability to see things from the point of view of others.

Applications must be received by email (to Miranda.Kieffer@okdhs.org) or postmarked (Attn: Miranda Kieffer, 50 NE 23rd St, Oklahoma City, OK 73105) by February 29, 2020.
