DHS Practice & Policy Lecture Series to feature discussion of moral development in the 21st Century

OKLAHOMA CITY – Moral development in the 21^st Century is the subject of this month's Practice & Policy Lecture Series presented by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS). Moral Guide to Myths and Realities will be presented by Dr. Melissa Brevetti on Nov. 28, 2018 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Oklahoma History Center, 800 Nazih Zuhdi Drive, Oklahoma City.

Brevetti is the author of Quest for a Moral Compass which seeks to define what moral education means in the digital world and how communities can build moral reasoning skills.

Brevetti has taught in private and public schools serving students in urban and parochial settings, English language learning, homeless, gifted/talented and special needs. She has taught and directed curriculum and policy in higher education and is the director of clinical partnerships at Langston University. She has written an ethics curriculum for a NASA grant, published a children's book of eastern philosophy and authored dozens of articles on inclusive and multicultural practices.

Dr. Brevetti serves on the planning committee for the National Conference on Learner-Centered Teaching, the executive board of Oklahoma Women in Higher Education and the Oklahoma City chapter of the International Society of Key Women Educators. She is a member of the International Advanced Accreditation Team of professional educators for on-site reviews of PK-12 school systems and is a recipient of the Outstanding Young Educator award, 10 for 10 Making a Difference award and the 2016 Ten Outstanding Young Americans (TOYA) award.

The Practice & Policy Lecture Series has been developed to provide thought-provoking presentations on Oklahoma's emerging policy issues, trends and best practices. The series is sponsored by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Office of Performance Outcomes and Accountability and the University of Oklahoma Center for Public Management. The goal of the series is to provide the best educational opportunities available in a forum that offers participants an opportunity to question, share and learn. All lectures are free and open to the public. DHS staff can receive training credit for this event and Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for social workers.
