OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) Office of Community and Faith Engagement (OCFE) hosted its 35th annual Volunteer and Community Partner Recognition Awards Ceremony on April 18, 2018 at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City. The theme of this year's event was 'Defining Excellence!' Twelve organizations and six individuals were recognized for their efforts and contributions to communities statewide. The awards were presented by Sheree Powell, DHS Director of Communications and Community Relations.

Louise Wagnon is a DHS retiree who returned to her former workplace in McAlester as a volunteer. Colleagues say she is a lifesaver because of her wealth of knowledge and her kind and compassionate demeanor. She donated to the office food pantry for years and continues to help with the pantry as a volunteer. Pittsburg County Director Donna Province said, "There will never be another Louise Wagnon. Her never-failing empathy and outstanding generosity do not go unrecognized. We love and appreciate her."

OCFE Administrator Karen Jacobs said volunteer and community partnerships are vital to the mission of DHS to help improve the quality of life for vulnerable Oklahomans.

"All of our volunteers are inspiring," said Jacobs. "From individuals to group efforts, we have seen a genuine outpouring of compassion and commitment to help others. It is humbling to see Louise return to DHS in a volunteer role so she can continue to help the agency serve families and children in Pittsburg County."
