DHS names SWODA interim AAA for Beaver, Cimarron, Dewey, Ellis, Harper, Texas, Woods and Woodward Counties

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS) names Southwestern Oklahoma Development Authority (SWODA) as Interim Administrative Organization (IAO) over OEDA Planning Service Area (PSA) effective July 1.
The area is currently served by the Oklahoma Economic Development Authority (OEDA). Last month, OEDA notified DHS that it is terminating its AAA service agreement effective June 30. SWODA already provides AAA services to Beckham, Custer, Greer, Harmon, Kiowa, Jackson, Roger Mills and Washita counties.

“DHS recognizes OEDA for its many years of partnership with us in service to older Oklahomans,” said DHS Aging Services director Lance Robertson, “and we look forward to SWODA providing continuity of service across western Oklahoma.”

An Area Agency on Aging (AAA) is a public or private non-profit agency, designated by the state, to address the needs and concerns of all older persons at the regional and local levels. DHS Aging Services contracts with AAAs in Oklahoma to provide free services to older residents 60 years and older. Funds are received through grants under the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended. Aging Services distributes and oversees the grant money.
