Jessica is a child welfare worker with the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS). She and her husband were newly married, and becoming foster parents never really crossed their minds. But when someone in need asked them to foster, they agreed.
“I never thought we could do it,” said Jessica. “However, my husband and I have learned it is a lot easier than we expected, even though we get attached to the children.”
Out of 28 children in foster care in Noble County, 21 of those children are currently in foster homes outside of the county. Noble County has only 11 traditional foster homes and they are completely full. Therefore, Noble County has a very serious need for additional foster families.
“In order for foster families to be able to work with biological families and get the children returned home, you have to be close in proximity,” Jessica said. “The way we look at it is, if we didn’t foster these children, who would?”
