Hundreds of people with developmental disabilities, their families, service providers and other advocates will rally at the state Capitol on Monday, March 14, beginning at 10 a.m. in the 4th floor rotunda.

“Intellectual and Developmental Disability Awareness Day,” as proclaimed by Governor Mary Fallin, will educate legislators about the needs of people with developmental disabilities and the importance of the services they receive.
Individuals with disabilities are one of the nation’s largest minority groups.  They are at greater risk for abuse, neglect, and exploitation of their legal and human rights.
Last year more than 9,000 Oklahomans with developmental disabilities received supportive services to live and work in their communities.  And more than 60 percent of adults receiving developmental disability services have supported jobs, enabling them to earn income and be as independent as possible.
Ensuring all Oklahomans with developmental disabilities have equal opportunities in housing, employment and education allows them greater opportunities to lead independent and productive lives.
This event is co-sponsored by Oklahoma People First, Oklahoma Community-based Providers, and the Oklahoma Department of Human Services Developmental Disabilities Services.
